Trump and Mamdani addressed reporters after their meeting in the Oval Office, where they said they discussed common ground on lowering the cost of groceries and housing.
Trump said he congratulated Mamdani on his victory, and the two men had a conciliatory tone.
“The better he does, the happier I am,” Trump said.
